Comments

Somalia's banknote printing relationship with China is rarely discussed but well-documented across several series from this period. The Gao Qiao Printing Factory in Beijing produced notes for a number of African states during the late 1970s and 1980s, typically at competitive rates that suited governments operating with constrained hard-currency reserves — Somalia's finances by 1980 were already under severe IMF pressure following the disastrous 1977–78 Ogaden War against Ethiopia.

Pick 27 is part of a short-lived series that would be superseded as inflation began eroding the shilling's purchasing power through the early 1980s. The single watermark security feature reflects the period's modest production specification.
