The Somali National Bank replaced the Somalibank in 1968 after the civilian government restructured the country's financial institutions. This 1975 issue falls squarely within the early years of Siad Barre's socialist military regime, which had taken power in 1969 and by the mid-seventies was pursuing aggressive Somalization policies — including the formal adoption of a standardized Somali script in 1972, the first time the language had an official written form.
Thomas De La Rue produced the series throughout this period, a relationship that continued despite Somalia's declared alignment with the Soviet Union — a reminder that security printing contracts rarely follow political allegiances.
