| Obverse description | Central field bears the denomination inscription in two large Japanese kanji characters, reading '二十錢' (Twenty Sen), arranged vertically. Surmounting the inscription at the top of the field is the Imperial chrysanthemum mon, the sixteen-petalled emblem of the Japanese Imperial House. The denomination is flanked by an ornate wreath composed of paulownia (kiri) branches on the left and oak branches on the right, tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The coin is bordered by a continuous beaded inner rim set within the reeded edge. |

| Reverse description | Central device depicts the Rising Sun motif: a lineated solar disc from which radiate alternating long and short rays extending to the inner field. Encircling the solar device is a ring of cherry blossom (sakura) florets. The Japanese legend reading the reign year and issuing authority is arranged around the periphery in vertical columns of kanji characters. The denomination '20 SEN' is inscribed in Latin characters along the lower portion of the field. Two raised dots flank the legend at the lower left and right, serving as separators. A beaded inner rim borders the entire design. |
