| Obverse description | Right-facing truncated bust of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah I, depicted as a young ruler wearing a traditional Malay songkok headgear and a military-style uniform with epaulettes visible at the shoulder. The effigy, engraved by Christopher Ironside, is rendered in fine relief with careful attention to facial detail. The circular legend 'SULTAN HASSANAL BOLKIAH I' runs along the entire periphery of the coin, arcing from the upper left to the lower right of the field. |
