| Reverse description | Three bunga melur (jasmine) blossoms, each with five rounded petals and a central boss, arranged in a triangular cluster occupying the right and upper portion of the field. The background is filled with an intricate geometric destar siga woven textile pattern rendered in fine relief, composed of intersecting diagonal lines and small squares. The left field displays a stylised array of horizontal lines and circular dots in varying sizes, evoking a decorative register. A plain inner border frames the entire composition. |

The current Malaysian 20 sen belongs to the third series of Bank Negara coinage, introduced after a 2011 redenomination exercise that eliminated the 1 and 5 sen coins from circulation. Nickel brass was chosen partly to reduce production costs relative to the older cupronickel pieces, and partly to improve vending machine compatibility across a retail sector that had grown substantially since the previous series.
