Obverse description The obverse is printed on a fine guilloche-patterned ground in pale ochre and grey tones. At centre, the Imperial chrysanthemum mon is rendered within a wreath flanked by foliate scrollwork, with the denomination 貳拾銭 (20 Sen) inscribed in large kanji characters beneath it. To the left is a dark intaglio rosette vignette in a quatrefoil frame, while to the right a bold circular guilloche underprint in red carries the two-character seal 大藏 (Ministry of Finance); the horizontal legend 大日本帝國政府紙幣 (Great Imperial Japanese Government Note) runs along the upper border in kanji.
