Obverse description Two conjoined oval shields, surmounted by a princely crown, displayed at center: the dexter shield bearing the cross of the Order of St. John (a plain cross on a plain field), and the sinister shield bearing the personal arms of Grand Master Manuel Pinto de Fonseca. The shields are flanked by laurel branches. The circumferential Latin legend reads F·EMMANVEL PINTO M·M·H·S·S with the date 1764 incorporated into the field to the left of the crown.

Reverse description Standing figure of Saint John the Baptist, clad in a rough garment, depicted in full length at center, holding a tall processional banner or staff bearing a cross at upper left; the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) is shown passant at lower right, facing left. The composition rests on a ground line. The circumferential Latin legend arcs across the upper field, and the denomination S·XX appears in the lower exergual area.
