| Aanvullende informatie |
Charles Emmanuel II was thirteen years old when he nominally assumed the ducal title in 1648, with his mother Christine of France — daughter of Henri IV — holding real power as regent until 1663. This coin was struck during that regency period, meaning the duke whose name it bears had no meaningful role in the fiscal or monetary decisions behind its production. Christine's administration was marked by factional struggle between pro-French and pro-Spanish factions at the Turinese court, and large gold multiples of this kind functioned primarily as diplomatic instruments rather than commercial currency.
At over 66 grams, this is a presentation-grade multiple with an extremely limited production run. MIR 788 is among the rarer recorded Savoyard gold multiples of the seventeenth century.
