| Reverse description | A right-facing portrait of the playwright and actor Johann Nepomuk Nestroy dominates the centre of the field, set against a background reproducing a facsimile of one of his manuscript pages. His autograph signature appears beneath the portrait. The legend 'JOHANN NEPOMUK NESTROY' is inscribed to the left and right of the effigy, with his birth and death years '1801' and '1862' flanking the portrait at either side. |

| Additional information |
Nestroy — playwright, actor, and the sharpest satirist Vienna produced in the nineteenth century — was celebrated on Austrian coinage as part of a long-running commemorative schilling series winding down in the final months before euro changeover. This 2001 issue appeared just weeks before Austria retired the schilling entirely on January 1, 2002, making the entire late commemorative run effectively collector pieces from the moment of striking.
