| 背面描述 | The reverse depicts a detailed panoramic view of Burg Hochosterwitz, the imposing medieval hilltop castle of Carinthia, perched dramatically atop a steep rocky outcrop with its series of fortified gates visible along the ascent. The circular legend 'BURG HOCHOSTERWITZ' runs along the upper periphery of the coin. At the lower right of the field, the coat of arms of Carinthia is shown alongside the regional name 'KÄRNTEN' and the year of mintage. The engraver's name 'BODLAK' appears to the right of the shield. |

Hochosterwitz, perched on a 160-meter dolomite outcrop in Carinthia, was one of the few Styrian strongholds never taken by force — a fact that informed the Austrian Treasury's choice of subject during a decade when the 20-Schilling denomination cycled through a rotating series of architectural types. The castle's 1586 ring of fourteen successive gatehouses, commissioned by Georg Khevenhüller as a defense against Ottoman incursion, made it an unusually loaded symbol for a coin issued through the tail end of the Cold War.
