Austria's stamp-themed schilling issues from this period were produced in the final years before euro adoption, with the schilling ceasing to be legal tender on 28 February 2002. Coins dated 2000 were among the last of the series struck for circulation, making them transitional pieces in the most literal sense — minted knowing they had roughly two years of monetary life remaining.
