Issued to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Abul Kalam Azad, the independence-era politician who served as India's first Education Minister from 1947 until his death in 1958. His tenure produced the groundwork for the Indian Institutes of Technology and shaped the early framework of secular public education in the new republic. The coin was released under the Government of India's commemorative series coordinated through the Security Printing and Minting Corporation.
