Islamia College Peshawar, founded in 1913 under the patronage of the Nawab of Dir and with significant backing from the All India Muslim League, was granted university status in 2008 — making the centenary commemorative issue five years later a direct acknowledgment of that transition. The college had served as a recruitment ground for the independence movement and later for the Pakistani military officer class, giving it an outsized political significance relative to its size.
KM#74 is part of a broader Pakistani commemorative rupee program that accelerated markedly after 2009, producing multiple institutional centenary pieces in copper-nickel at this module.
