| 正面描述 | The obverse displays the national coat of arms of the Republic of Belarus at center, depicting a sun rising over a globe flanked by wheat sheaves bound with a ribbon in the national colors, with a five-pointed star at the apex and a map outline of Belarus on the globe. The legend РЭСПУБЛІКА БЕЛАРУСЬ (Republic of Belarus) arcs around the upper field in Cyrillic characters, while the denomination ДВАЦЦАЦЬ РУБЛЁЎ (Twenty Roubles) is inscribed along the lower periphery. The fineness mark Ag 925 appears to the lower left of the arms and the date 2005 is positioned to the lower right. The design is struck in proof finish with a deeply mirrored field contrasting with frosted relief elements. |

Volkovysk is one of the oldest towns in Belarus, with archaeological evidence of settlement dating back over a millennium, and the city's medieval fortifications were significant enough to attract repeated Lithuanian and Teutonic conflict in the 14th century. This issue belongs to Belarus's long-running "Ancient Towns of Belarus" commemorative series, which the National Bank launched in the early 2000s to document urban heritage that Soviet historiography had largely suppressed or reframed.
The series consistently used the same .925 silver specification across issues, making die quality and mintage figures the primary differentiators between entries.
