Mir Castle, a medieval fortification in Grodno Region, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000 after a decades-long restoration effort that followed severe damage sustained during both World War I and World War II — the latter including use of the castle grounds as a Jewish ghetto by German occupying forces.
