Mir Castle, a medieval fortification in Grodno Region, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000 after a decades-long restoration effort that followed severe damage sustained during both World War I and World War II — the latter including use of the castle grounds as a Jewish ghetto by German occupying forces. Belarus has issued multiple collector series tied to its UNESCO-listed sites, and Mir is among the most frequently revisited subjects in National Bank commemorative programs.
