Aversbeschreibung Central field features a large struck relief of a church bell suspended from a crossbeam, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished black field. The national coat of arms of the Republic of Belarus appears to the upper left of the bell. The curved legend РЭСПУБЛIКА БЕЛАРУСЬ arcs along the left periphery, while the denomination 20 РУБЛЁЎ is inscribed along the lower left. The fineness designation Ag 925 and the date 2010 appear in the lower right field. The scalloped coin edge with seven notches frames the entire composition.

Zusätzliche Informationen

The Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Minsk has a complicated history that most commemorative programs quietly sidestep. Originally a Bernardine convent church built in the late 17th century, it was seized by Soviet authorities in the 1930s and converted into a state archive. It wasn't returned to the Russian Orthodox Church until 1990, just as the Soviet Union was beginning its final collapse. The coin was struck roughly two decades after that restitution — close enough in time that the choice of subject carries some institutional weight.

The pad-printing technique used for color application on this issue was adopted by the Belarusian program during the 2000s to add chromatic detail without cloisonné enamel costs.
