Issued as part of Belarus's extensive commemorative silver program, which by the late 2000s had become one of the most prolific in Eastern Europe — the National Bank releasing dozens of themed collector pieces annually, many tied to regional cities and cultural heritage. The Minsk issue belongs to a cities series that documented Belarusian urban identity during a period when the government was actively investing in national iconography.

KM#180 is a low-mintage collector piece with negligible circulation history; virtually all known examples remain in original capsules.
