Part of Belarus's long-running wildlife series, this issue was released during a period when the National Bank was aggressively expanding its collector coin program — producing dozens of themed silver issues annually throughout the mid-2000s. The Eurasian lynx had been effectively extirpated from much of Belarus by the early twentieth century through hunting and habitat loss, with populations recovering only after Soviet-era protections took hold in the latter half of the century.
The embedded Swarovski crystals were sourced through a licensing arrangement that became fashionable among Eastern European mints in the 2000s, with Austria's crystal manufacturer supplying numerous national programs simultaneously.
