At center, an engraved portrait of Francisk Skorina reproduced from the book Genesis published by Skorina himself is rendered in the field, flanked on either side by ornate decorative foliate border elements typical of early-sixteenth-century Ruthenian printing. Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse presents a panoramic view of Prague rendered in the style of old engravings, principally drawn from the Nuremberg Chronicle (Schedel's World Chronicle, late fifteenth century), conveying a detailed medieval cityscape in antique aesthetic. Fragments of architectural engravings by Francisk Skorina appear at the left and right margins of the composition, integrating the theme of early Ruthenian printing culture with the city's imagery. In the lower portion of the field, the inscription ПРАГА designates the city of Prague in Belarusian. Above the central cityscape, a depiction of the Prague Astronomical Clock is featured, surmounted by the circular legend ШЛЯХ СКАРЫНЫ, meaning Skorina's Way, which frames the upper arc of the design.

Aanvullende informatie

Francisk Skorina was a Belarusian polymath who in 1517 produced the first printed book in the Eastern Slavic world — a Church Slavonic translation of the Psalter, printed in Prague. His press operated there before he later moved to Vilnius, making Prague the starting point of what Belarusian cultural memory frames as a civilizational contribution to literacy in the region. This coin is part of a multi-issue series tracing his biographical and geographic journey.

The oxidized finish on .925 silver is deliberate for this series, lending the relief a darkened contrast that suits the commemorative intent.
