Additional information

Candlemas — known in the Orthodox calendar as Sretenie Gospodne, the Presentation of the Lord — falls on February 2nd and carries particular weight in Belarusian folk tradition, where it was historically treated as a marker between winter and spring. Belarus began issuing collector silver in earnest after independence, and its commemorative program expanded aggressively through the 2000s into religious and folkloric themes largely absent from Soviet-era coinage. The partial gilding on this piece reflects a technique the Belarusian Mint applied selectively to liturgical subjects during this run.
