Belarus launched an ambitious silver commemorative program in the 2000s targeting the international collector market, and the performing arts series was among its most sustained efforts. The National Ballet of Belarus, based in Minsk, had maintained a serious international reputation since the Soviet period — the company trained under the same Vaganova-method institutions that fed the Bolshoi and Kirov.
