Belarus issued this coin in 2004 as part of a broader commemorative program marking the 60th anniversary of liberation from Nazi occupation — a campaign concluded in summer 1944 with Operation Bagration, one of the largest Soviet offensives of the war. The partisan movement in occupied Belarus was among the most extensive in Europe, with an estimated 374,000 fighters operating behind German lines by mid-1944, actively disrupting supply routes critical to Army Group Centre.
KM#86 was struck at the Mint of Poland in Warsaw — a detail carrying its own historical irony given the shared wartime suffering of both nations under the same occupation.
