Reverse description The central vignette is an intaglio view of a grand interior hall of the National Bank of Belarus, rendered in brown and mauve tones, with tall arched windows, ornate columns, a chandelier, and a polished floor visible within the composition. Traditional Belarusian folk-pattern guilloche borders flank the vignette on both sides, and the denomination numeral '20' is placed in the lower centre. The denomination in words occupies the upper border band, with the anti-counterfeiting legend in small Cyrillic text at upper left.

Belarus redenominated in 2000, replacing the 1992 series at a rate of 1,000 old roubles to one new. This note belongs to that reissued series — same basic designs as the earlier printing, effectively rescaled. The reform was driven by hyperinflation that had rendered smaller denominations functionally useless through the 1990s, and the National Bank had been printing notes in denominations up to 5,000,000 roubles before the overhaul.

A second redenomination followed in 2016, again at 1:10,000, making this entire series obsolete within sixteen years of issue.
