Saudi Arabia held the G20 presidency in 2020, and this commemorative note was issued to mark the Riyadh summit held in November of that year — the first G20 summit conducted virtually, owing to the pandemic. The Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority had previous form with commemorative currency, but this issue is notable for being tied to an event rather than a reign or national anniversary.
Thomas De La Rue's production quality is consistent with the broader SAMA series. The TBB#142a reference suggests early catalog classification; some dealers still list it under provisional designations.
