| Description de l’avers | Central field features a bold Arabic calligraphic inscription in relief, rendered in an ornate, interlaced Nastaliq script style. Surrounding the central legend is a decorative wreath or border composed of stylized tulip petals or leaf forms arranged in a circular pattern, filling the entire field to the inner rim. The tulip motif is a prominent symbol of martyrdom and revolution in Iranian Islamic iconography. No effigies or portraits appear; the design is entirely typographic and decorative. The reeded edge is visible at the periphery. |

Issued in the immediate aftermath of the 1979 revolution, this coin belongs to the first wave of coinage produced under the new Islamic Republic after the Pahlavi monetary imagery was systematically purged. The Central Bank faced the simultaneous pressures of a currency in freefall, the U.S. hostage crisis freezing Iranian assets abroad, and — from September 1980 — a full-scale war with Iraq that would consume the economy for nearly eight years.
KM#1247 was struck during one of the most economically unstable periods in modern Iranian history, which makes circulated survivors far more common than uncirculated ones.
