Pick 60 belongs to the post-Mosaddegh series issued after the August 1953 coup restored Mohammad Reza Shah to power. The currency overhaul that followed was partly cosmetic — a deliberate visual reassertion of royal authority after two years of nationalist government under Mosaddegh, during which the Shah had briefly fled the country.

Bank Melli Iran had continued operating through the political crisis, but the new note designs signaled a clean break. Printed by Bradbury Wilkinson in England, this series remained in circulation well into the late 1950s before successive inflationary pressures pushed smaller denominations toward obsolescence.
