| 正面描述 | Within a beaded inner circle surmounted by a royal crown, the denomination is expressed as the Roman numeral XX flanked on each side by a stylised floral ornament, with the date inscribed below. The surrounding circular legend names the issuing sovereign, Maria I, Queen of Portugal and Brazil, separated by dot stops. The overall design is plain and utilitarian, characteristic of Portuguese colonial copper coinage of the late 18th century. |

Maria I ruled Portugal through one of its more turbulent administrative periods, and her copper coinage reflects the chronic supply and logistics problems that plagued the Casa da Moeda throughout the late eighteenth century. The distinction between "Low Crown" and "High Crown" varieties on this type results from die variations introduced during production — not a deliberate design revision — making the two varieties effectively accidental rather than the product of any official change in specification.
The thirteen-year striking window across Bentes 302 and 303 accounts for considerable die wear variation across surviving examples.
