| Obverse description | Royal crowned monogram of King João V of Portugal occupying the central field, formed by the interlaced initials IV (Ioannes V) beneath an ornate royal crown with crossed palm fronds on either side. The date 1735 is inscribed in the lower exergue. The design is rendered in the bold, slightly crude style characteristic of colonial copper coinage struck at the Damão mint for circulation in Portuguese India. |
