Reverse description The reverse of the host coin, a 10 Reis piece struck under King José I of Portugal for Guinea and Angola, displays the circular Latin legend PECVNIA·TOTVM·CIRCUMIT·ORBEM (Money goes around the whole world) surrounding the central field. The Portuguese royal shield — featuring the five escutcheons arranged in a quincunx, each bearing five bezants, enclosed within a broader shield with a bordure of castles — occupies the central field. This face also bears the applied royal countermark of Prince Regent João (KM#40), struck in 1809 to revalue the coin to 20 Reis for continued circulation in Angola.
