| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of King Carlos I of Portugal in right-facing profile, rendered in high relief with naturalistic detail to the hair and facial features. The truncation of the bust is plain. A continuous beaded border frames the design. The circumferential legend reads CARLOS I REI DE PORTUGAL, with the engraver's signature V.ALVES and the date 1903 appearing in the lower portion of the field flanking the bust. |
