| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Queen Isabella II facing right, her hair swept back and gathered with a ribbon at the nape of the neck, adorned with a laurel wreath. The effigy fills the central field with fine engraving detail attributed to Luis Marchionni. The circumferential legend reads ISABEL 2A POR LA G· DE DIOS Y LA CONST·, with the date of issue appearing in the lower exergue. A fine toothed border frames the entire design. |

| Reverse description | Crowned quartered coat of arms of Spain at centre, displaying castles of Castile and lions of León in the principal quarters, with a central escutcheon bearing the fleurs-de-lis of the Bourbon dynasty. The shield is flanked by the two Pillars of Hercules, each wound with a scroll inscribed PLUS and ULTRA respectively, symbolising the motto of the Spanish Empire. A royal crown surmounts the shield, and the circumferential legend REINA DE LAS ESPAÑAS arcs above, while the denomination * 20 REALES * appears in the lower segment.
