The Omron rings — a pattern of small concentric circles invisible to the naked eye but detectable by photocopier firmware — were added to this series following pressure from central banks globally to embed passive anti-counterfeiting deterrents directly into the substrate design. Their presence here is unremarkable in isolation, but the dual-signature pairing of Gill Marcus and Lesetja Kganyago places this note precisely at the governorship transition of late 2014, when Marcus stepped down after five years and Kganyago was appointed by President Zuma in October of that year.
Notes bearing both names simultaneously are transitional printings, not errors.
