Obverse description Blue on green and multicolor underprint. A vignette of dock workers occupies the left portion of the note, flanked on both sides by quetzal bird vignettes set within ornate guilloche borders. The face carries the issuing bank title and bearer payment obligation in period script.
Obverse lettering BANCO CENTRAL DE GUATEMALA GUATEMALA, CENTRO AMÉRICA Pagará al portador en efectivo, á la vista y á la par VEINTE QUETZALES Acuerdo de 3 de Septiembre de 1943.

Reverse description Printed in blue. A central intaglio vignette presents a perspective view of the Palace of the Captains-General with mountains visible in the background, framed by elaborate guilloche rosettes; the Roman numeral denomination XX appears within a large guilloche medallion at left, and the numeral 20 within a matching medallion at right. The printer imprint of Waterlow & Sons Limited, Londres is inscribed in small text at the lower center.
