The Q20 has been part of Guatemala's circulating series for decades, but the 2006–2007 issues under De La Rue are notable for carrying the same signature pairing across both years — María Antonieta de Bonilla as President of the Banco de Guatemala, paired with Lizardo Arturo Sosa López. De Bonilla held that post unusually long for the region, serving through a period of significant macroeconomic reform and quetzal stabilization efforts tied to Guatemala's 2002 monetary law overhaul, which came into full effect only gradually.

The security package on this series is relatively modest by mid-2000s De La Rue standards — watermark and thread only, without the optically variable features that appeared on later Guatemalan issues.
