Beschrijving voorzijde Central field dominated by an ornate calligraphic tughra-style Arabic legend reading 'Sultan Fuad' in elaborate interlaced script, occupying nearly the full field and rendered with considerable artistic refinement. The Hijri date 1335 appears in large Eastern Arabic numerals beneath the calligraphic device. The entire design is contained within a beaded inner border, with a milled edge visible at the periphery. The flat, unadorned field surrounding the inscription is characteristic of the trial strike format, without any effigy or portrait of the Sultan.

Beschrijving keerzijde Upper portion of the field features a bold Arabic legend 'السلطنة المصرية' (Sultanate of Egypt) in large calligraphic script, surmounted by a small floral ornament. At center, the denomination '20' in Western numerals appears to the left and '٢٠' in Eastern Arabic numerals to the right, separated by a decorative branch or floral device. Below the numeral '20', the word 'PIASTRES' is inscribed in Latin characters, flanked by the Arabic word 'غروش' (Qirsh). The Gregorian year '1920' and Hijri year '١٣٣٨' are inscribed in the lower exergue, separated by a small ornamental motif. A beaded inner border frames the entire design.

Aanvullende informatie

Egypt's currency reform of 1920 was driven by the British administration's push to rationalize the Ottoman-era monetary system still in use after the Protectorate declaration of 1914. This piece is a trial strike — produced to test dies, planchet specifications, or both before committing to full production runs — which explains why confirmed examples outside institutional collections are exceptionally scarce. Fuad I had been Sultan since 1917 and would not assume the title of King until 1922, placing this issue squarely in the politically ambiguous interregnum between Ottoman succession and formal Egyptian monarchy.
