Azerbaijan's first decimal coinage followed independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, and these early issues were struck under considerable logistical strain — the newly sovereign republic had no domestic mint and relied on foreign facilities to produce its inaugural circulation series. The 1992–1993 date range reflects the compressed window in which the manat system was being introduced while the ruble zone had not yet fully collapsed in the region.
