| Beschrijving voorzijde | Horizontal note printed in black on white paper. A large intaglio vignette at the top centre presents a classical allegorical group of figures in a landscape setting, flanked by oval denomination counters bearing the numeral '20' at upper left and upper right. The upper margin carries the legend 'UNDER ACT 16 & 17 VICT. CAP. 63'. The central text panel bears the bank title 'THE COMMERCIAL BANK OF SCOTLAND' with the qualifier 'INCORPORATED BY ROYAL CHARTER', followed by the promise to pay inscription in a combination of script and letterpress. The borders are richly decorated with fine guilloche lathe-work and ornamental rosettes. The lower margin provides manuscript signature lines for Accountant and Manager, with 'By order of the Court of Directors' above, and the word 'SPECIMEN' overprinted in bold across the face. |
