The signature progression on this series doubles as an accidental corporate history. Fred Goodwin's name appears across three date variants spanning 2000–2007, a period that ended with RBS's catastrophic acquisition of ABN AMRO and the 2008 collapse that required a £45 billion government bailout — the largest bank rescue in British history. Stephen Hester was brought in to manage the wreckage, and his signature duly appears on the 2010 and 2012 dates. Ross McEwan's 2017 date remains unlisted in standard Pick references, making it the hardest variant to attribute with confidence.
