Reverse description The reverse, designed by Stephen Taylor, presents five successive official effigies of Queen Elizabeth II arranged in an overlapping arc across the upper field, progressing from Mary Gillick's young laureate portrait at lower left through the busts by Cecil Thomas, Arnold Machin, Raphael Maklouf, and Ian Rank-Broadley to the most recent crowned effigy at lower right, commemorating the Queen's achievement as Britain's longest-reigning monarch. Below the portraits, the Royal Cypher E II R surmounted by a Tudor crown occupies the centre of the field, with the engraver's initials ST beneath. The curved legend THE LONGEST REIGN arcs along the lower rim in bold incuse capitals.
