The Isle of Man Government began issuing its own banknotes under the Currency Act 1992, which formally separated Manx currency administration from the UK arrangement, though in practice the island had been producing its own notes well before that legislation passed. This £20 runs across a span of over a decade and three serial prefixes under Cashen alone — an unusually long run for a single signature series, reflecting the island's small but stable issuing volume.
De La Rue's London plant handled production throughout. The transition from Dawson to Cashen at the 450000 boundary in 1991 is the key signature split for collectors.
