| Obverse description | The note is printed in blue on white paper with an intricate guilloche border framing the entire face. Three oval vignettes are arranged along the left margin, the central one enclosing a seated classical female figure, flanked above and below by ornamental medallions bearing the numeral 20; the Royal Arms with supporters is centered at the top between two further numeral ovals. The text of the promise to pay is set in a combination of letterpress and script typefaces, with the words "Twenty Pounds" rendered in large copperplate lettering, and the date, serial number, and manuscript signatures of the Secretary and Manager appearing in the lower portion. |

| Reverse description | The reverse is plain unprinted paper, showing the laid texture of the stock and traces of show-through from the obverse printing, consistent with the uniface production typical of Scottish commercial banknotes of this period. |
