The "Ang Bagong Lipunan" — New Society — inscription on this series was Marcos's explicit branding of the martial law order declared in September 1972, and it remained on Philippine currency for over a decade. Three successive Central Bank governors cycled through during this note's production run, each pairing with Marcos on the signature panel: Licaros, then Laya, then Fernandez. The governor changes track shifts in monetary policy during a period of severe external debt accumulation and peso instability.
Giesecke & Devrient handled production throughout, as they did for much of the Bagong Lipunan series.
