Reverse description The reverse is rendered in orange and terracotta tones, centred on a vignette of the Banaue Rice Terraces in Ifugao, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which occupies the upper right portion of the note. An outline map of the Philippine archipelago is printed at left in underprint, and a detailed intaglio vignette of the Asian Palm Civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) is positioned at centre-right over a naturalistic landscape background. The denomination '20' appears in large numerals at the far right with a security lattice.

The BSP's ongoing "New Generation Currency" series, introduced in 2010, replaced the older BSP series that had run since 1985. The 20 Piso denomination has historically seen the heaviest wear of any Philippine note — its face value keeps it in constant daily transactional use, and cotton-paper examples from this series typically show accelerated deterioration in tropical humidity conditions, a known issue the BSP has periodically cited in public reports on currency replacement cycles.

Pick 236 represents the current polymer-transition holdout: the BSP moved several denominations to polymer substrate in 2022–2023 trials but retained cotton for this value pending circulation data.
