The abacá component in the paper stock is the detail worth noting here. The Philippines is the world's dominant producer of abacá — a banana-relative grown primarily in Mindanao — and its inclusion in the substrate isn't decorative nationalism but practical: abacá fiber adds tensile strength and resistance to the wear patterns that denominations in heavy daily circulation accumulate quickly. The 20 Piso is exactly that kind of working note.

Oberthur Fiduciaire has printed Philippine currency for decades, and the Chantepie facility handled this series throughout its run. The 2016 signature year is the one to watch — it bridges two presidential administrations, appearing with both the Aquino III/Tetangco and Duterte/Tetangco pairings.
