Obverse description A beaded border frames the entire design, with the circular Latin legend running between it and the central motif. The field displays the heraldic coat of arms of Zell im Wiesental, featuring a shield divided horizontally with wavy lines in the lower half, surmounted by an elaborate mantling and crest with flowing acanthus-style scrollwork to either side. Two small six-petalled rosettes appear as stops flanking the legend in the field. The overall composition is rendered in a bold, slightly rustic style characteristic of World War I German notgeld coinage.
