20 Pfennig - Wansen

Wansen — now Wiązów in southwestern Poland — issued this iron notgeld token through its municipal savings bank during the acute metal shortages of World War I, when the Reich's demand for copper, nickel, and zinc stripped small municipalities of any viable coinage material. Iron was the last resort. The Funck 573.5A designation places this within a well-documented regional series, though surviving examples in unrusted condition are genuinely scarce given the metal's hostility to a century of storage.
