Gewerkschaft Heldrungen II was a coal mining operation in the Heldrungen district of Saxony-Anhalt, and this iron notgeld pfennig belongs to the broader wave of emergency coinage issued by German industrial enterprises during and immediately after World War I, when chronic metal shortages and disrupted supply chains made official small-denomination coinage effectively unavailable.
