备注

Lübeck's municipal treasury issued small-denomination Notgeld in enormous quantities between 1919 and 1922, driven by the chronic shortage of fractional coinage that plagued Germany's postwar economy. The Reichsbank could not keep pace with demand for low-value coins, so thousands of municipalities, firms, and institutions printed their own emergency paper — legally tolerated, not officially sanctioned.

Gebrüder Borchers was a local Lübeck printer, which made these genuinely municipal objects: conceived, printed, and circulated within the same city. At 44 × 36 mm, the note is barely larger than a postage stamp.
