The two Dithmarschen Kreise — Norderdithmarschen and Süderdithmarschen — issued this note jointly, which was unusual even by the chaotic standards of German Notgeld. Most district-level emergency currency came from a single administrative body; a co-issued piece across two distinct Kreise required coordinated authorization and shared liability, something local governments were generally reluctant to arrange.
J. C. König & Ebhardt of Hannover were primarily a commercial printer and stationery house, not a specialist banknote firm — their involvement reflects the scramble for any capable press during the wartime paper money explosion of 1918.
